The Phantom of Manhattan -
I finished "Manhattan" yesterday so I thought I should review it. Now, from the reviews I had read, I fully expected it to be a terrible piece of literature that disgraced both the musical and the original novel and that every copy should be burned....Well, it wasn't what I expected. Seriously people, it's not THAT bad. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Forsyth's writing style or his depiction of the characters. However, there were two things that annoyed me, one of which is a major plot detail and the other the ending of the book. So uh, spoilers I guess? Not that anyone really cares...
Annoyance #1: So, "Manhattan" takes place about 12 years after the events in the musical; Christine and Raoul are married and they have a son named Pierre. BUT, apparently, Pierre is not Raoul's son but is in fact, the PHANTOM'S son. ....Yeah, I'm still trying to figure that one out. o.O Ok...number one, when the hell could this have happened? Apparently Pierre was...conceived...after the Phantom kidnapped Christine during "Don Juan Triumphant" and took her down to his underground lair. Alrighty, this really messes up their characters. It makes the Phantom look like some sick pervert and Christine like some slut. And also, wouldn't Raoul be a bit pissed off that the love of his life cheated on him? He knows that Pierre is the Phantom's child....And anyway, this just seems more like a "What if?" plot that you would find in fanfiction than a plot that you would find in a published novel....
Annoyance #2: Christine dies. Yeah. At the end. Bullet wound to the back. Ouch. Not only does it suck that my favorite character dies, but her death was COMPLETELY and UTTERLY POINTLESS!!! Well, okay, not entirely...she took the bullet instead of her son (hey, it's like Bambi!), cause the evil guy in the book wanted to kill Pierre (don't ask, long story). But I dunno, I think it would have been better if it looked like she was gonna die but then didn't...OOH OOH, it would have been awesome if it was the Phantom who had died to save his son! Aww, it would have been so bittersweet! *shot*
Sex scandals and random character deaths? This is like a soap opera...(pun not intended). Anyway, yeah, it was good, but not good enough to keep and read again. I'm not sure I would recommend it to a hard-core Phan....I'm kinda surprised that Lloyd Webber is attempting to make it into a musical. Well if he succeeds, I hope he changes the ending. Cause it sucks. Meh.
Expect some sort of "Manhattan" parody in the future.

Indiana -
Tomorrow me, my mom and my sister are going up to Indiana to visit relatives. And I won't be back till...Sunday? Yeah, Sunday.
Harry Potter -
At 11:30 my mom's taking me over to the bookstore to get Deathly Hallows! I'm so excited, and kinda sad, cause it's the last one....Oh well, at least there's gonna be two more movies to look forward to. There's been Potter Parties in pretty much every bookstore around here, but I won't be going to any. I just want the book. Apparently, when Half-Blood Prince came out, there were 500 people getting the book at that bookstore. O_O There's gonna be even more this year...good thing we pre-ordered it....And no, I will not be posting spoilers on here. Cause that's just mean.
So uh...yeah! See ya guys later!!!
